Enquire about this pieceThe crescent, or lunula, was hung at the throat as a charm across the Hellenistic world and the lands it touched in Bactria and India. Here it is plump and rounded, topped with a small palmette, and hung at the centre of a strand of large purple stone beads — faceted bicones alternating with ribbed melon beads.
The pendant and clasp are gold, the pendant reading 77.9 per cent by XRF. Most of the 52-gram total weight is stone.
Length 43 cm (17 in.), so it sits just below the collarbone.
