Enquire about this pieceSeated, pot-bellied figures of this type — genial, crowned, one hand resting on the knee — were among the guardian and wealth deities of the Buddhist world of Gandhāra and beyond. The relief is deep, with the face, belly and folded legs standing well forward of the ground.
The edges of the sheet are irregular and crumpled, which is the nature of repoussé this thin; it wants a dark mount behind it rather than a frame around it.
