Enquire about this pieceStepped altars, sacred trees and the trident all belong to the shared symbolic vocabulary of early India and the Kushan lands, where they appear on seals and votive plaques. The lower register carries two lines of letters in the manner of an early Indian script.
We have not had the inscription read and make no claim for what it says; treat it as part of the design. The sheet is pierced at each corner and has the soft, rippled surface of thin repoussé work.
