Enquire about this pieceThe ibex, its horns curving back in a single arc to the rump, is one of the oldest subjects in the gold of Central Asia and ancient Iran. The composition here — the adult above, the young sheltering beneath, the whole standing on a pierced base — turns the animal into a small architectural frame.
The body is worked smooth and rounded and the horns ribbed, and the spaces between the legs matter as much as the metal. It is best seen against a plain ground: a dark mount, a shelf, or the palm of a hand.
Five centimetres square. A good first piece for anyone who wants the steppe style without the scale of the larger works.
