Enquire about this pieceThe frontal figure flanked by a pair of animals is a composition that goes back to the earliest art of the Near East; it was taken up across Iran and Central Asia and turns up in Kushan-period jewellery in just this form — a leaf-shaped plaque, a rope-twist frame and an outer ring of beads.
The centre is worked in high relief, the horses turned outward with their forelegs raised. The bail is decorated with a cluster of granules, and at 7 grams the pendant has enough weight to hang well.
Supplied without a chain. It suits a plain gold chain of 45 to 50 centimetres, or a silk cord.
